A contact lens exam consists of all aspects of a general exam in addition to the following tests:
Early intervention gives a person the best possible chance of maintaining good vision. A thorough eye examination not only reveals the health of your eyes, but can also be an indicator of your overall health. Many general health conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected through regular, preventative eye examinations. Make a regular visit to your optometrist part of your annual health assessment.
The first time you come in for a contact lens fitting we will ask what history or issues you may have with your sight, it will help us judge which brand and type of lens will fit your needs best.
We will perform a slit lamp evaluation to assess the lens' coverage, centration and movement. It will also help us see if there are any other issues in terms of comfort with the lenses themselves.
After the evaluation we will give you a trial set of lenses and a thorough instruction of the proper techniques for their insertion and removal. We will also discuss tips for disinfection and what solutions you should use with them.
Generally between 1-2 weeks after the last visit we will insure proper fit and ask if there were any issues, how the clarity of vision was and the overall comfort.

Just about anyone tired of wearing glasses has the potential for successful contact lens wear. Granted, certain ocular conditions preclude some of us from the freedom of contact lenses, so it is best to consult with your doctor in this regard.
Soft contact lenses are the workhorse of most contact lens practices these days. Standard daily wear, 2 week disposable, 2-3 month planned replacement, toric daily wear and planned replacement, and bifocal lenses are all present in our arsenal. Rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP's) may be utilized for patients with a high degree of correction or astigmatism and are used to control nearsighted progression by some practitioners. We fit contact lenses from virtually all the major manufacturers including Johnson & Johnson, Ciba Vision, Coopervision, Bausch & Lomb and more.
